Activating the GW4 Wildcard is a popular move inside the FPL community. Many feel uncomfortable between an army of available DEF assets on the market! The data has shown 3 outstanding options to consider as the template FPL Draft for GW4 Wildcard-ers.

Liverpool DEF: essential for GW4 Wildcard

The no.1 priority is nowhere out of the Red side of the Merseyside representative – Liverpool! The army under Slots is showing outstanding performances during the start of the season. Defensively, Liverpool is over-shadow even the great Arsenal with 3 consecutive CS in their first 3 matches. They also conceding the least xG in the whole league.

Under Slots, Liverpool’s defense line still stood very high from Allison’s net. That might look risky and remind us of the poor defensive result under Klopp. However, the pretty good counter attack management from the new manager led the Red to this phenomenal outcome! The high defense line also means Liverpool defenders are involve in more attacking returns. In addition, Liverpool’s next 5 fixtures are pretty worth investing in. 3 of them are at home, 4 of them are against the mid-table teams.

Konate is the cheapest Liverpool defender! Despite not being involved in any threatening chances, the 5.0m price tag still makes him a really considerable option to take advantage of those fixtures and  insane CS odd.

If you have the 1m addition, maybe consider Robertson as a pick. Taking the most shot ITB compared to other defenders and more set-pieces than Trent, the Scottish winger ranked 6th in terms of xA, 3rd in both threat and creativity inside of every defender in the league. For another 1m, Trent should be your priority! Still the no.1 creator from The Kop, the Englishman ranked 2nd in terms of Creativity and first in both xA and xGI in the whole league! TAA looks aggressive in Slots’ system playing almost like a midfielder.

The only 2 DEF who scored 200+ points in a single season

Porro: the most attacking DEF in the game

Despite playing for a weaker side defense, Porro is still able to prove his value as an attacking DEF. Being the no.1 shot taker in the box compared to any other DEF, Porro ranked 4th in terms of xGI and 7th threatening DEF in the league despite not being involved in the aerial set-pieces. The Spurs own left winger is also the team creator as he is the no.1 creative DEF in the league and gets the return of 3rd best xA creator inside the DEF category.

Sum up, Porro is not the player that you can rely on CS points a lot but definitely the type of DEF who can consistently bring home a bunch of returns.

Leif Davis: The differential pick in GW4 Wildcard

This guy has been under our radar for a while but the horrible opening fixtures prevent us from bringing him in. The Ipswich Town talisman holds the Championship record for the most assists from a defender with a decent 18 assists!!!

18 assists for a defender seem like the unbreakable record in Championship history

Despite the fact that Ipswich Town being ranked as the weakest defense in the league, the ability to scored points from the 24-year-old Englishman is clear based on the attacking data: 2 goals and 14 assists in 2022/23 (to help Ipswich being promoted); 2 goals 18 assists in 2023/24 (help his former club being promoted again). However, Davis’s not only the Championship guy but also able to provide 1 assist in GW3 and currently ranked 6th in terms of Creativity DEF and 7th in terms of xA despite playing against City and Liverpool in 2 out of 3 matches. From now until GW15, Ipswich’s fixtures are going to be way easier than the first few. Definitely the hidden gems to consider!
